  • Cognition and Cancer Abstract Deadline - November 15th 2009 is the deadline for submitting an abstract for the Cognition and Cancer Conference.   • NSF Speaker Series: - These presentations will feature NSF Program Directors who have accepted our invitation to visit us at IUPUI and include IUPUI Faculty who have been successful at securing NSF funding. The first session of the speaker series entitled, NSF FUNDING LEARN HOW...NOW! is scheduled for October 26th, from 3:30 - 5:00 in the Lilly Auditorium, located in University Library. This session will provide a broad focus on NSF funding opportunities available to IUPUI faculty. Details regarding future presentations will be announced in the October issue of the Research Enterprise newsletter and posted on the OVCR website. Click here to register.
  • 3/8/2010 - 3/9/2010: COGNITION AND CANCER CONFERENCE - The International Cognition and Cancer Task Force is pleased to announce the Cognition and Cancer Conference, March 8th - 9th, 2010 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY. This conference will present information regarding the state-of-the-art research examining the imapct of cancer and cancer-related treatment on cognitive and behavioral functioning in adults with non-central nervous system cancers. Focus will be on the cognitive and neurobehavioral sequelae associated with cancer and cancer therapies. Visit ICCTF for additional information on the conference.
  • 9/19/2009 the Inaugural IUPUI Regatta canoe race took place on the north end of the Indianapolis canal running from the Buggs' Temple end to the USS Indianapolis Basin and back. Faculty and staff from the Radiology Research Imaging and Neuroimaging department formed a team called The Photons and raced to the finish line to gain 5th place.
  • 9/10/2009 Mwangi, a 16 year-old lion living at the Indianapolis Zoo, was a recent patient at the Radiology Imaging Sciences MRI suite. Mwangi received an MRI brain and lumbar spine brain scan on Tuesday. The photo of Mwangiwas taken after the MRI procedure when Mwangi was still recuperating from his sedation.

  • 6/25/09: Congratulations to Dr. Karmen Yoder, who has been awarded an NIH R03 mechanism from NIDA called an ISTART. The grant is specifically to support pilot imaging studies, and is $150K for 1 year. The title of her project is, “Assessment of the Dopamine System in Fibromyalgia”, and it will use [18F]fallypride to probe the dopamine system in FM patients and a control sample.
  • 6/15/09: Grant Awarded to Karmen Yoder--Karmen Yoder, PhD, has been awarded a grant from The Indiana Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Fund in the amount of $120,000 over two years. Her project is titled, “PET Imaging of TBI-Induced Neuroinflammation: An Innovative Tool for Tracking Treatment Efficacy.”
  • 05/22/09: New imaging core funded by NIH - The Indiana Alzheimer Disease Center is proud to announce the addition of a newly NIH-funded Neuroimaging Core to become an integral part of the center together with the existing ones: Administrative, Clinical, Data Management and Statistics, Neuropathology, Education and Information Transfer. The IADC Neuroimaging Core will be led by Andy Saykin, PhD, Raymond C. Beeler Professor of Radiology and director of the newly established IU Center for Neuroimaging. This new center is located within the Indiana Institute for Biomedical Imaging Sciences and provides state of the art imaging technology for human clinical research and animal models.   • 03/16/2009: Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) Announces Completion of Genome-Wide Analysis. This genotyping project was completed by the ADNI genetics research team led by Dr. Andrew Saykin, Psy.D., director of the IU Center for Neuroimaging at the Indiana University School of Medicine.   • 03/16/2009: IIBIS Imaging Workshop Series 2009-TBA: Provides a series of lectures on the fundamentals of biomedical imaging for all who use or are considering using imaging in their research. The series includes: introduction to Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Introduction to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Introduction to Computed Tomography (CT) and an introduction to Optical Imaging.
  • 01/27/2009: Congratulations to Marc Normandin, Purdue University Graduate Student in Biomedical Engineering and resident trainee in the Indiana Institute for Biomedical Imaging (IIBIS). Marc recently received a $3,000 fellowship from The Society for Nuclear Medicine. This award is one of only seven awards offered internationally. Marc’s project was titled “A single-scan method for estimation and visualization of neurotransmitter release, “ and the grant award is being used to support the research project. The fellowship also supported work contributing to Marc’s Ph.D. Thesis, three conference abstracts, two articles about to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals, and a third manuscript that will be submitted in the coming months.
  • 01/26/09: The Indiana Alzheimer Disease Center is presenting a two day symposia on “Role of Comorbidity in Cognitive Decline” and “How to Keep a Healthy Brain as We Age”. The event will be held at the Indiana Historical Society on March 13-14, 2009 from 8-5pm. More information is available here.
